Lotte van Drunen on stage at WMX Galicie

Lotte van Drunen from the De Baets MX team managed to secure a podium place in the second race of the women's world championship in Lugo, Spain. After a poor start in the first heat, Van Drunen came back to finish in fifth place. In the second heat, she achieved a second place in the muddy conditions and thus finished third in the overall standings for the day.

Van Drunen arrived at the second race of the championship with an eight-point lead over the second lady. The track was hard and fast on Saturday. As a result, the times in the qualifying rounds were very close together. Lotte made several pushes and achieved a third fastest time.

At the start of the first heat, she got off to a bad start and had to begin the race outside the top ten. She immediately started making progress, but it wasn't until after a few laps that she found a good rhythm. By the time Lotte reached a fifth place, the ladies in front of her had already managed to create a gap. She tried to close it, but was unable to do so in the remaining part of the heat, which meant she had to settle for a fifth place.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, it rained heavily in Lugo, which changed the circuit. A good start in the muddy conditions was important, and van Drunen took care of that. She was in a much better position than on Saturday, but she struggled to find the right rhythm in the early stages. She fell back to ninth place but kept searching for the good rhythm. Once she found it, she started gaining positions. Van Drunen made it into the top five and pushed through to the top three. When the rain came pouring down in the final phase, she took possession of second place. She managed to maintain this position until the finish line and thus finished third in the daily standings.

After two matches, Lotte remains in the lead in the championship and has an eight-point advantage over the two chasing ladies.
