CANNON CLAIMS BACK-TO-BACK EMX250 OVERALL VICTORY

The classic Talkessel circuit at Teutschenthal provided a spectacular stage for Round 5 of the FIM Europe EMX250, with contrasting conditions across the two races delivering drama, momentum swings, and a worthy overall winner in Jake Cannon of Venum BUD RACING Kawasaki, the Australian claiming back-to-back GP victories and moving to second in the championship standings, 30 points behind his own teammate Francisco Garcia.

MX250

Under clear skies and on a fast, rutted hard-pack surface, the opening race started in dramatic fashion for the championship leader. Garcia got off the line well but found himself wide at the entrance to the pitlane, losing the front group in the opening seconds and rejoining mid-pack. That gave Mads Fredsoe of Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM free reign to lead, with GABRIEL SS24M Factory Juniors’ Gyan Doensen of slotting into second and applying immediate pressure. Further back, Cannon was making his presence felt, working through the field to third and putting real heat on Doensen. Liam Owens, also of Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM, was moving well, while of Maddii Racing Team Honda’s held sixth, Bernardo Tiburcio seventh, and MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing’s Nicolai Skovbjerg fading slightly after a strong start.
As the laps ticked down, Cannon closed right onto Doensen’s rear wheel and looked set to attack. With two laps remaining, Cannon launched his move for second but in the heat of the battle, he ran wide into a rut and lost momentum. Owens capitalised immediately, slipping through to take third. The drama played perfectly into Fredsoe’s hands: with Doensen busy defending, the Danish KTM rider kept his composure at the front and took a commanding Race 1 victory. Doensen crossed the line second, Owens third. Cannon recovered to fourth, followed by Skovbjerg, Alvisi, Tiburcio, Simone Mancini of Beddini Racing Ducati Factory MX2 Team, KTM Sarholz Racing Team’s Lyonel Reichl and Francesco Bellei of Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM to complete the top ten.

If Race 1 was fast and dry, Race 2 was its complete opposite. Heavy rain had been falling for over thirty minutes before the gate dropped, transforming the circuit into a slippery, rutted challenge that would reward consistency and punish the smallest error. Cannon again nailed the holeshot to lead into the first corner, with Garcia reacting brilliantly and sitting right on his teammate’s rear wheel. Francesco Bellei held third briefly on the opening lap, but Garcia had already swept past Cannon before the end of lap one to take command of the race and begin pulling clear at the top of the circuit.
Cannon remained second and stayed focused on managing the race rather than chasing his teammate into the spray and roost. Reichl moved up to third with a strong move around Bellei, with Alvisi fifth and Fredsoe sixth in the early stages. Tiburcio had climbed as high as fifth before a crash sent him back to twelfth, a long, difficult recovery through the mud, though he eventually worked back to ninth. Fredsoe also found the deteriorating conditions costly, dropping to ninth after a mistake. Doensen, by contrast, was producing a superb drive through the pack, climbing steadily to fourth before pressing Reichl hard for the final podium position. ≤ of Team VHR Racing, running inside the top seven, also suffered a costly error that dropped him to eleventh, while Owens — so effective in Race 1 — was stuck in fourteenth after a series of mistakes in the difficult conditions.
With three laps to go, Garcia was untouchable at the front and the overall podium picture was crystallising. Cannon held second on the road and commanded the overall standings comfortably, while Doensen in fifth was too far back to threaten Alvisi sitting fourth, for the crucial position that would determine the GP podium. At the flag, Garcia took a dominant Race 2 victory ahead of Cannon, with Reichl third, Alvisi a vital fourth and Doensen fifth. The combination of Cannon’s 18-22 scorecard and Doensen’s 22-16 gave the Australian the overall by just two points. Alvisi’s 15-18 was enough for third overall and his maiden EMX250 podium in just his first year in the class. Jekabs Kubulins of JK Racing YamahaTeam VHR Yamaha Official's Jarne Bervoets, Tiburcio, Brunet and Adria Monne of the RFME Spain National Team completed the Race 2 top ten. In the championship, Garcia leads on 202 points ahead of Cannon on 172, with Skovbjerg third on 158.

Jake Cannon:I can’t be happier. From last year to this year, it’s a big step. I’m continuously growing and I think it’s good for me, the championship, and also the team — me and Fran [Francisco Garcia] are putting on a clinic at the moment. I keep working towards a race win, I don’t know how that hasn’t come yet, but there’s a lot of second places so first is coming. Overall a good weekend, I’m happy for the team, I’m happy for myself, the confidence is growing so it’s good.”
Gyan Doensen: “Yeah, finally. It’s been a tough start to the season, to be honest, and I’ve been struggling mentally a lot. But yeah, to do this is a big step. In the second moto I wasn’t capable of the podium or the win, but I’ve tightened up a lot. Thank you to my team, thank you to my trainer, everyone in my corner.”
Nicolò Alvisi:It’s amazing. Two good starts and a podium in my first year in 250. It’s super and I’m really happy — see you in Latvia.”
