Jeremy Seewer starts 2022 MXGP on the box

The 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship roared into life across the weekend. The Grand Prix of Great Britain, held at the world-renowned circuit of Matterley Basin, was the destination for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP squad. Jeremy Seewer, Glenn Coldenhoff and Maxime Renaux leapt onto the jump-laden circuit that was covered by sunny skies.

  For Maxime Renaux, the latest YZ450FM recruit, the first day of on-track action marked a milestone in his young career. Renaux claimed the lead heading into the second corner of the qualifying heat and held off a multi-time champion to clinch pole position. It was a ride that served notice that he will be a threat in just his first term competing in the premier division. Jeremy Seewer qualified in third in the same heat, not too far behind his teammate, with Glenn Coldenhoff in sixth.

The first moto of the new term, which was run in front of a passionate crowd, featured Seewer at his best. Refusing to wait around, he charged into the lead just a couple of laps into the moto and immediately tried to build an advantage. Unfortunately, a slight error with less than two laps to go cost him the moto victory. However, Seewer still salvaged second and set himself up for a good overall ranking. A fourth in moto two left him third in the overall classification, a fantastic result to start the new season.
 
Narrowly missing out on the overall podium in his first attempt on the YZ450FM, Maxime Renaux was rather impressive en route to fourth at the Grand Prix of Great Britain. The first encounter was where he reminded everyone what he is capable of. Completing lap one in fifth, he posted the best time of the race en route to third. Four measly seconds separated him from the eventual winner! Renaux started eighth in the second moto and worked his way up to sixth by the time that the chequered flag waved.

Glenn Coldenhoff sat just behind his teammates in the overall classification, as he rounded out the top five. A ninth in the first moto left him hungry for redemption when the second moto begun. Using the power in his YZ450FM, he held second for a couple of laps before settling into third and holding that spot until the chequered flag waved. It was a positive end to the Grand Prix and one that provides momentum heading into round two.

The second round of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship is actually not far away at all. Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP will travel to Mantova, Italy, for the Grand Prix of Lombardia that will be run this weekend.

Jeremy Seewer: "It was a really positive day. I've never started the season this far up front. I've never started the season on the podium, so it's pretty good. It shows I'm ready. I enjoyed the racing. The track was difficult but really nice. The sun was super low and it was quite tricky. I'm super happy, except about the first moto when I thought I had the win in the pocket. I lost the front and then caught some ruts, and my legs were not long enough to save me. I am on the podium and I'm fit. I'm happy with everything and the team around me. It's all positive. I'm ready for more."

Maxime Renaux: "I'm not too happy with the second moto, but it was not a bad weekend for the first one. Third in the first race was pretty good and I finished fourth overall, but I know I can do better. I made a little bit too many mistakes today, but fourth… We can keep building from here."

Glenn Coldenhoff: "I started good in both motos, which was really positive. It was going well in the first moto until I started to struggle at the halfway point – to go from third to ninth is never ideal. We made some changes for the second moto and it definitely worked out well. I got another good start and just felt a lot better. I could not quite follow the leaders, but still managed to finish third. That was enough for fifth overall. Overall, it was a decent start to the season. A positive one."
