Maxime Renaux takes second at MXGP of Trentino

Pietramurata, Italy, has been kind to Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP in the past. The YZ450FM was placed atop the box when the Grand Prix contingent last raced alongside the Dolomites; Glenn Coldenhoff, Jeremy Seewer and Maxime Renaux tackled the hard-pack circuit with their sights set on similar success at round five of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship.

 
Riding a wave of momentum after a rather successful Grand Prix of Portugal, Glenn Coldenhoff was ranked the highest out of the YZ450FM pilots in qualifying on Saturday. Coldenhoff secured fourth in the heat after settling into the position on lap three. Behind him, Jeremy Seewer clinched eighth after a difficult start and Maxime Renaux recovered to ninth after a crash on lap three. Renaux ran as high as sixth before that.

The power inside of the YZ450FM helped Coldenhoff to a brilliant holeshot in the first stint and, hungry for more success, he immediately attempted to build a gap over the chasing pack. '259' led ten of the nineteen laps before succumbing to the race leader and settling for second place, a result that set him up well for a strong overall result. Unfortunately, a crash in the second race restricted him to eleventh. Fifth overall was his ranking at the end of the weekend.
 
Gaining pace as the weekend progressed, Maxime Renaux got stronger towards the end of the first moto on the slick layout. It was lap fourteen where he caught fire – he suddenly moved from sixth to fifth and then took fourth a couple of laps later. Fourth was where he sat when the moto ended. Staying true to form, he was then even better in moto two and charged to second when the chequered flag waved. That also put him in second overall at the Grand Prix of Trentino! Yet another podium for the young rookie.

Jeremy Seewer was so close to joining Renaux on the overall podium; he raced to a solid fifth in moto one and was competitive in the top three in moto two. Seewer was second in the early stages, before a mistake robbed him of the position and caused him to lose a spot. Not to be deterred, however, and jostled with his teammate for that runner-up spot throughout the rest of the race. Third was where he was eventually ranked, which put him in fourth overall at the Grand Prix.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP will regroup now, before heading north to Latvia for the sixth round of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship. The shallow sand of Kegums awaits.

Maxime Renaux: "It was a good weekend! I am really, really happy with the podium. I'd say it's the podium that I'm the happiest about so far this season! The pass on Jeremy in the second moto really put me on the podium, so I was happy to make a smart move. I put the pressure on and could make it happen."

Jeremy Seewer: "I am very happy to be here with this result after everything that happened in Argentina. I messed up one corner in the second moto and made a small mistake. If I had gone to the inside there, I would have been on the box today! We have a lot of racing left and I will climb back to my best level."

Glenn Coldenhoff: "It was a good first moto with some nice battles. Unfortunately, I had a start crash in moto two and an issue after three laps that was caused by a stone. I am gutted about the overall result but there are still a lot of positives to take home!"
