Maxime Renaux wins MXGP at the Motocross of Nations

There is nothing quite like the Motocross of Nations! The complete Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team travelled to RedBud in the United States to take part in the prestigious race that follows a format that is similar to the Olympics. It is nation against nation! Jeremy Seewer (Team Switzerland), Glenn Coldenhoff (Team The Netherlands) and Maxime Renaux (Team France) hit the track in front of 78,300 fans.

Maxime Renaux is going to remember the 2022 Motocross of Nations for some time. Not only did he finish in second place with Team France, but he also hit some personal milestones. Racing into third place in moto one was an incredible start to race day and set the tone. It was the final moto where he shined though. '13' moved into the race lead on lap three and did not look back from that moment – he eventually crossed the finish line with a 4.600 advantage. 3-1 scores gave him the individual win in the MXGP overall classification!

It was a case of what could have been for Jeremy Seewer. The speed was there for Seewer to challenge for the win, but he eventually took third place in the MXGP overall classification. '22' was actually stalking his teammate, Renaux, early in the first moto, but an untimely fall meant that he had to settle for fourth. Fifth was his ranking in the final moto; he started and finished in the same position. Team Switzerland eventually ended in ninth overall.

Frustratingly, it was a weekend to forget for a luckless Glenn Coldenhoff. A fall on the first lap of moto one meant that he had to charge up from the back of the field. Thirteenth was where he finished, after a really impressive ride, and thus motivation was high entering the grand finale. There was more poor luck on the horizon though, as yet another crash meant that he had to retire prematurely. 13-36 scores left him thirteenth in the MXGP overall classification. The Netherlands took seventh.

Maxime Renaux: "It is a great feeling. This was not the result we were aiming for – we were here to win. Sometimes these things do not go as planned. Team USA was very strong today. In terms of my team, I was so happy with the atmosphere this year. It was like having two big brothers. They gave me a lot of advice, so I want to thank them for that. Personally, this was an incredible day for me. My first MXoN on the YZ450FM and I won the MXGP class against some really big names."

Jeremy Seewer: "I enjoyed this weekend a lot. Especially yesterday, when the track was dry, it was incredible. I had some good racing yesterday. The fans were amazing. It gives you goosebumps! I would say that I had a solid day today. Nothing 'wow' but also nothing bad. My riding was pretty good. I was consistent and did not make any big mistakes, other than a small crash in race one. Other than that, it was a good day and that is a wrap on this season. I am just looking forward to having some days off."

Glenn Coldenhoff: "I did not have the best feeling this weekend, although it did get a bit better. I had wheel spin off the gate and then crashed on the first lap, so I had to start from dead last. I got back to thirteenth. I messed up the start again in the second race, then I got landed on by another rider and crashed. The bike was completely bent and I could not continue. It is a shame to end the season like this, but I am happy to go home fit and healthy."
