Isak Gifting takes seventh overall in Sardegna

The Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team entered the Grand Prix of Sardegna, the eighth fixture on the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship schedule, aboard a wave of momentum after a promising outing in Italy one week prior. The power-sapping sand of Riola Sardo strikes fear into the hearts of most, but both Isak Gifting and Kay Karssemakers were eager to achieve even more success.

Hindered by a crash on lap one of the first moto, Gifting put in an impressive charge to move from the back of the pack to ninth in insanely tough conditions. It was yet another example of his resilience when the cards are stacked against him. The second stint was a much smoother experience; '517' used the power within his KTM 250 SX-F to launch into the top six and then settled down in fifth place for the duration. 9-5 scores put him seventh in the overall classification and helped him slide into eighth place in the championship standings.

Riding a wave of momentum after an incredible outing one week ago, Kay Karssemakers showed additional flashes of potential in what was his greatest test as an MX2 star. Securing a strong fourteenth in moto one, and showing more top-ten pace along the way, was his greatest moment of the Grand Prix, as he later took sixteenth in what was a difficult moto two. A handful of mistakes left him with some work to do on the rugged circuit. 14-16 scores put him sixteenth in the overall classification.

Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee will return to domestic duty this coming weekend, as the fourth stop of the 2022 ACU British Motocross Championship is set to be run at Canada Heights. The 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship will resume in Spain one week later.

Isak Gifting: "I had pretty good pace in timed qualification on Saturday, but unfortunately an issue in the qualifying race made Sunday difficult with the twentieth gate pick. I had a first-lap crash in moto one and came back to ninth, then fifth in moto two for seventh overall. Not the best day, but kind of good damage control since Saturday. The team worked very hard to make it happen, so great job! Up to Spain."

Kay Karssemakers: "I couldn't find my rhythm after a decent start in the first race. I wasn't happy with my riding, but ended up fourteenth. I had a crash on the first lap of moto two, unfortunately, but found my rhythm quite quickly after that. My riding was better. All in all, I am not happy about my weekend. It's a weekend to forget and we'll move onto Spain."

Roger Magee (Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee Team Manager): "A difficult weekend for the team, with the high temperatures causing problems for both the riders and mechanics in what was the first hot MXGP of 2022. That said, it was another great team effort overall by all personnel. Isak had another incident on lap one of moto one, which saw him have to come back from last to P9, and Kay scored points once again with P14. Moto two saw Isak make good work on the opening lap despite his gate pick to bring it home with P5 and therefore P7 in the overall classification. He has now elevated himself up to P8 in the overall Motocross World Championship as he continues to improve since his collarbone surgery. Kay again scored points in moto two with P16, despite a crash midway, and was P16 in the overall classification. The team now make the long journey back to the workshop to prepare for next weekend's British Championship round at Canada Heights."
